One of the most common issues with skin complexion is dealing with uneven texture of the skin. Between lack of hydration, not enough sleep, or environmental hazards, it is likely that many of us don’t have the softest skin. Thankfully, that doesn’t mean that you are unable to repair your skin. With the right products and a consistent routine, you can effectively recover your skin texture, if not make it even more supple.
When you’re internally dehydrated, it will definitely appear on your face. One of the most simple ways to care for your skin is by staying hydrated and consuming as much water as possible. Your skin will appear less dull and more youthful if you are able to drink the recommended 64 ounces per day.
Exfoliation should be part of your skincare routine, because the process helps to eliminate dead skin cells on the surface and should be done at least twice a week. There are several different ways you can exfoliate, but my personal favorite is with the Glossier Face Exfoliator which utilizes salicylic acid and gluconolactone to polish away dead skin.
INVEST IN A HYDRATING MASK
Probably, one of the best things you can do for your skin at least weekly, is to invest in a hydrating mask. Not only will the mask restore moisture in your flaking face, but when used properly the skin will begin to almost “puff up” and look more youthful. My favorites include Summer Friday Jet Lag Mask as well as GlamGlow Thirsty Mud Mask.
TRY AN AT-HOME PEEL
To go a bit deeper than surface level, attempt a peel. For those of you who have tried peels already, you should know they can work wonders and provide a more luminous skin finish. The frequency which you should do peels would be dependent on the sensitivity of your skin. Peels may also treat other skin concerns such as acne and hyper-pigmentation, but all target texture directly.
DON’T FORGET SPF
As mentioned in the opening, environmental aggressors take a huge toll on our skin. One of the most dangerous culprits is excessive sun exposure, because UV rays can be incredibly damaging to the skin. As a reminder, you should be wearing SPF all year, and yes, that includes the days you don’t see the sun shining.
You will not get smoother skin if you don’t moisturize your skin. If you’ve noticed any dry flakes or patches, then it may be time to swap out your current moisturizer for something a bit richer or oil-based. A thicker moisturizer can help keep any dryness away and make your skin appear baby-soft.
VISIT A SKINCARE PROFESSIONAL
Paying a visit to a skincare professional or dermatologist can quickly help determine what’s causing your uneven texture and if there are any specific products, you should be using. They are also able to prescribe any type of medication, oral or creme, in order to maintain skin’s health.
